What is the Safe, Easy, Fast Way To Remove Fingerprints From Drum Set Cymbals?

I don’t want to pay $30 or whatever it is for proper branded cymbal cleaner. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

If you've got an area of any type of metal that is rusted, try a little steel wool to get rid of that, and then use either Brasso or Tarnx to clean and polish.

*try to avoid water based cleaners in the future to prevent further oxidation.

Bar Keepers Friend (near Comet)

I cleaned the bottoms of my skillet with copper bottoms, worked great, they were BADDDD!!

I used very little water until I had to rinse them and dry them off very good!!!

DO NOT USE BRASSO OR COMET TO CLEAN CYMBALS!!!!!

This is very, very, very important. Abrasive cleaners such as Brasso and Comet will strip the lacquer from your cymbals. Lacquer on cymbals and brass instruments (such as trumpets and tubas) is a good thing, but it is bad on other things such as brass figurines.

Once again, if you use Brasso or Comet on your cymbals, it will ruin the finish!

That being said…you need to use a dedicated cymbal cleaner, something that was specifically made to clean cymbals. You can find some different brands at just about any music store. If you don't have a music store nearby, you can find some here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=cymbal+cleaner

If I were you, I would use a cleaner that is made by a cymbal manufacturer such as Sabian, Paiste or Zildjian, but anything that is made specifically for cleaning cymbals should be ok.
